CASE STUDY:THE NSA BAHA’IS OF UK: Social responsibility - compliance to the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)

Client requirement

This national charity with over 150 local branches and four regional agencies wanted to learn about the DDA and to ensure compliance.  Supporting this was strong personal commitment by the Directors to deliver real benefits to their constituent group.  The Directors sought assistance from Serene Communications to work with the senior team to provide knowledge on the legislation and thereby assist them to align policies and practices with the requirements of the legislation.

Our response

We worked with the senior management team to plan a strategy for an organisation wide legislation awareness campaign.  We proposed ways in which the organisation’s services could be delivered in the context of the DDA and identified priorities towards total implementation in October 2004.

We provided DDA training for the Directors.  The training focused on specifics of the legislation and compliance issues.

Client outcomes

The NSA Baha’is of UK have established a team championing those with disability within their constituency, have undertaken extensive access site audits of premises and provided protocols for their agencies in regard to compliance with the DDA.
